Pavement parking: Campaign for Better Transport comments

Commenting on the announcement of new powers for local authorities in England to introduce pavement parking restrictions across their areas, Silviya Barrett of Campaign for Better Transport said:
“Inconsiderate parking that blocks pavements is a blight on people’s ability to walk safely in their communities. More than five years after it was initially consulted on, it is great to see the Government finally publish its proposals to tackle pavement parking. While falling short of the national ban on pavement parking many in the sector campaigned for, giving local transport authorities the power to prohibit pavement parking in their areas is a significant step forward. We need to make sure local leaders take this up so we do not end up with a patchwork of rules across council boundaries.”
