Public ‘key’ to success of rail reforms
Responding to the launch of an eight-week public consultation into the Government’s plans for reforming the railways, Paul Tuohy, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport said:
“We’re pleased to see the launch of this public consultation into the Government’s plan for reforming the railways. This is a once in a generation change for the railways, so it is essential the Government gets it right. Giving the public a say in what rail reform should look like is key to making it a success and ensuring we create a passenger-focused railway which makes travelling by train easier, more affordable and more attractive to help grow the rail network, boost passenger numbers and contribute to economic growth across the country.”
On the creation of a new Passenger Watchdog, Mr Tuohy added: “Whilst we support the creation of a new Passenger Watchdog in principle, we will need to see what this means in practice, and whether this new Watchdog will have any teeth to hold Great British Railways to account when it needs to.”
