Strategy marks ‘important step towards an integrated railway’
Responding to the Government’s newly published Rolling Stock and Infrastructure Strategy, Ben Plowden, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“This strategy marks another important step towards the integrated railway passengers have long needed. Planning trains and infrastructure together, creating a more predictable investment pipeline, improving standardisation and better coordinating fleet renewal with electrification should help deliver a more reliable, accessible and cost-effective railway.
“We are also pleased to see a focus on ensuring new fleets meet modern passenger needs from step-free boarding and cycle storage to better facilities for families.
“The challenge now will be how quickly these ambitions can be translated into real improvements for passengers across the country.”
