Transport charity calls for ‘sustainable’ growth as it welcomes Rolling Stock Strategy
Responding to the Prime Minister’s speech at the Guildhall in London today, Silviya Barrett from Campaign for Better Transport said:
“We welcome the focus that this Government is placing on economic growth and attracting private investment in infrastructure, but growth must be sustainable. To ensure this, the Government must prioritise investment in green transport, rather than roads and airports.”
Responding to the announcement that the Government is developing a Rolling Stock Strategy, Mrs Barrett said:
“We welcome the news the Government is developing a Rolling Stock Strategy – this is something we’ve long called for. This should provide the rail manufacturing sector with the long-term certainty it has been lacking and protect tens of thousands of UK jobs. It is vital that we invest in our public transport network and in the manufacturing industry and skills that support it. A good, affordable and accessible public transport network is key to growth and its benefits are felt right across the country.”
