Better Transport Week 2026 launches, celebrating the connections that matter

15 June 2026

Better Transport Week 2026 launched today with an event at Birmingham New Street Station, kicking off a nationwide celebration of how better transport connects people, places and communities.

Running from 15 to 21 June, Better Transport Week – organised by Campaign for Better Transport – highlights how safe, accessible, affordable, reliable, integrated and green transport can bring people together and strengthen communities across England and Wales.

This year’s theme focuses on ‘how better transport connects people and places’ and celebrates the vital role transport plays in helping people access jobs, services and social opportunities, while supporting cleaner air, healthier lives and a stronger economy.

The week will feature events across the country, including:

  • A launch event at Birmingham New Street Station and a visit to newly reopened Pineapple Road Railway Station on the Camp Hill Line
  • A national tour of reopened railway lines which have helped reconnect communities across England and Wales
  • Industry roundtables and networking events
  • Bus-focused events celebrating our most widely used form of transport
  • Local and regional showcases of inspirational transport projects
  • The Better Transport Conference at London South Bank University.

As well as webinars and podcasts, public events to help people make the switch to greener travel, and competitions and special offers.

Ben Plowden, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:

“Better Transport Week is a chance to celebrate the connections that matter in all our lives. Good public transport, shared travel, and active travel help connect us to the people we love, the things we need and the places that matter – creating thriving communities and building a fairer future for everyone.

“At a time when transport costs and access remain major barriers for many people, improving everyday journeys and investing in better local transport has never been more important.”

Better Transport Week 2026 is being funded by the UK Government. Local Transport Minister, Lilian Greenwood, said:

“Better Transport Week is a chance to celebrate the people keeping our country moving and to bring the sector together to share ideas and support communities.

“With the progress we’re making to local transport, giving local leaders more control over buses, investing record amounts to fix potholes, and supporting more contactless, tap-and-go travel, this year’s theme of connecting communities couldn’t be more relevant.

“We know that good public transport is vital for helping people get to work, access essential services, and stay connected to friends and family. That’s why improving everyday journeys and supporting growth in every corner of the country is our priority.”

Bauer Media Outdoor UK is the headline sponsor of Better Transport Week 2026. Neil Chapman, Product Design Director Europe & UK from Bauer Media Outdoor, said:

“Better journeys start with better infrastructure, which is why we’re proud to support Better Transport Week 2026 as headline sponsor. We know from our own research that many factors contribute directly to passenger confidence, perceptions of safety and reliability, including accessible and comfortable designs, well-lit waiting environments, protection from the weather, real-time passenger information, and reliable maintenance. These are not simply design considerations. They’re factors that influence behaviour, support modal shift, and encourage greater use of public transport.

“By combining Bauer Media Outdoor’s product innovation and on‑the‑ground experience with Campaign for Better Transport’s research, policy insight and advocacy, we can help turn ambition into action, raising standards nationally and creating transport environments that more people want to choose, more of the time.”

Better Transport Week is the annual celebration of how safe, accessible, affordable, reliable, integrated and green transport can connect communities and bring people together. More than 100 organisations – from local authorities to transport industry, NGOs, businesses and passenger groups – will be using the week to promote the benefits of public transport, shared mobility, walking, wheeling and cycling.

Alongside an exciting week-long line up of online and in person events all over the country, Campaign for Better Transport will once again be hosting the Better Transport Conference on Friday 19 June in London. This year the free one-day conference will open with a keynote speech from Rail Minister Lord Hendy and is sponsored by AtkinsRéalis. Book your free place today.
