Launching Better Transport Week

11 May 2023  |  Michael Solomon Williams  |  Buses

We are extremely pleased to introduce Better Transport Week with an official launch event at the Railway Industry Association this evening.

We're on board for a better transport future

Running from 12 to 18 June and inspired by our 50th Anniversary, Better Transport Week will highlight positive, innovative work being done across the transport sector, promote the wide range of benefits of public transport, shared mobility, walking and cycling, and encourage more people to travel sustainably. Packed with events, positive actions, eye-catching social media and more, the week will bring the transport industry, government, business and NGOs together, along with passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and everyone who cares about transport’s vital role in our lives.

With a different theme for each day of the week, there’ll be something for everyone, whether you’re a bus or train passenger, a cyclist, a car club member, or prefer to travel by shanks’s pony!

We’ll be kicking off the week at Kings Cross Station in London with a day focused on rail travel, including a rail industry roundtable, supporter actions and competitions in partnership with Network Rail, Eurostar, the Community Rail Network and many more. On Tuesday we’ll be celebrating the most-used form of public transport, the bus, meeting bus operators and drivers across the country, with the public encouraged to thank their driver and share why buses and coaches are important to them.

On Wednesday we’ll be celebrating the importance of integrated local networks with a local transport roundtable in Manchester, a ‘Ride to Rail’ supporter action to highlight the expansion of bike hire across the country, and an exciting light rail summit. Thursday is Health Day when we’ll be highlighting the health impacts of transport on national Clean Air Day, and Friday is Business Day, with a focus on how businesses can reduce their transport emissions and encourage their employees to travel to work more sustainably, with events, actions and offers on both days.

Finally at the weekend we’ll be rounding off the week with two days of promotions that aim to celebrate public transport, walking and cycling, including an exciting garden-themed competition with the RHS.

We’ve partnered with a host of leading transport organisations to help spread the message about the vital importance and transformative potential of trains, buses, coaches, walking, cycling, wheeling and shared mobility. The range of organisations that have pledged to support the week is really fantastic and proves just how socially, environmentally and economically important sustainable transport is to all. There is a fantastic range of discounts and promotions being offered by partners including on bike hire, car club membership and more, so be sure to take advantage of those throughout the week!

As Campaign for Better Transport turned 50 this year, what better way to celebrate than with a week-long celebration of sustainable transport? I for one can’t wait!

Get on board

I care about transport. I don’t want a future of traffic jams and dirty air. I want the Government to back public transport for a greener, fairer transport future. Please send me campaign actions and updates by email.
