Campaign for Better Transport is calling on the Government to step in and support local buses after figures reveal a decade of decline.

On Tuesday (24 January), Campaign for Better Transport visited Manchester as part of the organisation’s 50th anniversary tour of transport innovation. In 2023 Greater Manchester will become the first region outside London to introduce bus franchising, bringing buses into the integrated and ground-breaking Bee Network.

Reacting to the announcement of projects awarded funding from Round 2 of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund, Silviya Barrett of Campaign for Better Transport said:

Campaign for Better Transport has welcomed an initiative whereby bus passengers will be able to make a single journey for £2 from today, but called for the scheme to be extended if its benefits are not to be just a blip.
